Lahore High Court (LHC) Friday ordered striking doctors to join their duties in emergencies immediately.
The court expressed displeasure over the strike being held by the YDA and issued summons to its leadership.
Lahore High Court while hearing a petition against the ongoing strike of Young Doctors Association (YDA) in Punjab’s public hospitals, ordered the protesting doctors to resume their services in the emergency wards by 9:00 on Saturday morning.
Lawyer Azhar Siddique had submitted an application in Lahore High Court requesting the court to order protesting doctors to resume their duties.
During the hearing, the petitioner informed the court that doctors had received degrees from countries whose certifications had no value in Pakistan.
The petitioner moreover requested the court to issue directives for the verification of the doctors’ degrees.
At the beginning of the hearing in the case against the doctors’ strike, the court told YDA representatives that continuing the strike despite the Supreme Court’s directives was a violation of the apex court’s order.
The LHC moreover said that the patients could not be abandoned to the mercy of striking doctors.
Justice Aijazul Hassan said complete inquiry will be held in the matter of young doctors and people who were involved in the chaos will be brought to book.
The young doctors stated that strike could not be called off in the present circumstances as police were illegally harassing them.
The judge ordered that leaders of Young Doctors Association should not be tortured by police.
Justice Aijazul Hassan said doctors have violated the orders of Supreme Court by staging protest, adding that patients should not suffer in any case.
It is pertinent to mention here that after the hearing of the case the young doctors’ representative Syed Nasir Abbas while taking to media outside the court premises refused to obey the judgment of the court.
“We would resume our duties only if the Punjab government stops harassing young doctors”, he added.
