Striking doctors still off duty

Young Doctors Association has linked opening of emergency wards in public hospitals with release of arrested doctors and also withdrawal of the cases registered against them.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the spokesman of Young Doctors Association (YDA), Nasir Abbas has appreciated release of arrested doctors by the Punjab government.
He said that the association wanted to solve the issue but several doctors have not been released yet.
He said that the young doctors will return to their duties within half hour time after the release of all arrested doctors and withdrawal of cases against them.
Earlier on Wednesday, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah claimed that the Young Doctors Association (YDA) has called off its strike.
The provincial law minister, after having meetings with senior doctors for two hours, said that cases against doctors will be withdrawn and all those arrested will be freed.
Sources said that government released all the doctors after a successful meeting between the representatives of government and senior doctors. But the Young Doctors’ Association (YDA) pointed out that although most of their colleagues were freed yet some were still behind the bars and also the FIRs lodged against them were not withdrawn.
