The Supreme Court on Wednesday suspended the membership of Nadia Gabol and Farhat Muhammad Khan of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.
A three member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the dual-nationality case on Wednesday. The proceedings began with arguments by Malik Jameel’s counsel Imtiaz Siddiqui, who earlier filed his client’s written statement on oath.
PML-N’s Malik Jameel Awan, who the Supreme Court (SC) suspended as lawmaker on Tuesday, submitted a written rejoinder to the apex court on Wednesday. During the hearing, Imtiaz Siddiqui argued that in Netherlands, nationality was different from citizenship. Justice Jawwad S Khwaja remarked that the hearing of the case would not be possible if the Dutch law was not comprehended. Addressing Malik’s counsel Siddiqui, Chief Justice Chaudhry noted, “According to you, there is no concept of citizenship in Holland; instead, only nationality exists there?”
Upon which, Justice Khawaja said: “We are not comprehending the difference between citizenship and nationality.”

  1. I salute Supreme Court for protecting constitution and sovereignty of Pakistan from men/women who have renounced Pakistani nationality when they took oath of citizenship of USA, UK, Canada, etc. All these people have a foreign passport and a NICOP which exempts them from seeking visas and extended stay in Pakistan

  2. Courts are busy in witch-hunting of PPP members. There hundreds of thousands Pakistanis that retain dual nationality and they are the one who are major sources of foreign exchange. They must be happy with this biased decision of court. Courts are bound to interpret constitution and they are very much bounded to the same constitution. I have a question do constitution envisage arbitrary disqualification of millions of Pakistanis that holddual-nationality? I am sure not. Courts are running their own parallel government that is not bound to any law or constitution. We strongly condemn this decision of court.
