Strongly reacting to the government’s decision to restore NATO supply, the Difa-e-Pakistan Council (DPC) has announced to launch a long march towards Islamabad on July 8.
Announcing the decision, Jamiat-e-Ulama-e-Islam (JUI-S) chief Samiul Haq, who heads the coalition of religious parties, said the long march would start from Lahore, and that the DPC partners would hold a meeting on July 7 to finalise arrangements for the long march. He also announced to observe July 6 as “Black Day”.
Haq also invited all religious and political parties of the country to join the long march, adding that a committee is being formed within the DPC which will consult the leaders of opposition parties, including the JUI-Fazl and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. In response to a question, Haq said that the restoration of NATO supplies was un-Islamic, as the materials being transported through it would be used to kill Muslims. He added that the restoration was also against the sentiments of the Pakistani public and parliamentary recommendations.
