Ch Ahmad Saeed, Formanite and former chairman of Servis Industries Group, Agricultural Development Bank and Pakistan International Airlines, was awarded an honorary doctorate at the Commencement ceremony held at Forman Christian College on 30 June 2012. In addition to his many philanthropic activities, Ch Ahmad Saeed is also President of the Formanites Alumni Association. He was honoured for his services in developing a strong support group for the transformation of FCC and his entrepreneurial leadership of a variety of organizations.
In a ceremony attended by a large number of persons, including faculty, parents and friends of graduating students, over four hundred students graduated in various disciplines. There were a total of 395 Baccalaureate and 25 masters and MPhil graduates. The valedictory speech was given by Muhammad Adeel, BSc (Hons) Biotechnology, who had a CGPA of 3.98. In a speech part humorous and part serious, he thanked the faculty of the Biological Sciences Department and urged his fellow graduates to follow their dreams.
In his last commencement address before he retires, the Rector FCC Dr Peter H Armacost, spoke not just about education, but the type of education that FCC students receive. He said that we try to prepare students not just for careers but also for citizenship by instilling in them the core values such as integrity, reliability, respect and tolerance for others.
He also said that if students kept the values taught by Quaid-e-Azam in balance – unity, discipline and faith – the nation would prosper. He ended with the prayer and hope that all students would have a successful career, become responsible citizens, persons of compassion who act responsibly on the basis of their convictions, and serve God and humanity.
Dr Armacost was joined on stage by the Rector-Designate Dr James A Tebbe, the Executive Vice Rector Dr C J Dubash, Chairman of the FCC Board of Governors Jamshed Rehmat Ullah, and member FCC Board of Governors Yusuf H Shirazi.
