Jamat-e-Islami Chief Munawar Hasan has expressed grave concern over the reports of Pakistan-US talks on the resumption of NATO supplies and said it would be a foolish decision which the nation would never forgive. In a statement here on Tuesday, he said that the US could not afford to continue supplies through the Central Asian states or aerial route because of heavy cost and if the government stuck to its decision of stopping the supplies, the US and NATO would be forced to withdraw from the region.
Therefore, the rulers should refrain from selling the independence of the country and neighbouring Afghanistan for dollars, he said.
He said this was the best time to teach Washington a lesson and to get rid of the drone attacks otherwise the US would never withdraw from the region. The US considered this area the nursery for the Jehadis and wanted to annihilate it, he added.
Hasan said the frequent visits of the US officials to this country these days clearly indicated that the US was highly perturbed about the NATO supplies and was adopting the policy of carrot and stick for their opening. The meeting of the US Commander John Allen, US deputy Secretary of State, Thomson R. Nides, and US envoy Cameron Munter, with Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar in the presence of Army Chief Gen, Kiyani and Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, showed that the rulers in Islamabad had lost courage. The mention of $ 400 million first installment to be paid within next few days was an indication that a decision to reopen the supplies had been taken.
He said the rulers should never forget that the best way to weaken the enemy was to cut off its supplies. The US, he said, had rudely turned down Islamabad’s demand for an apology over the Salala attack that caused the martyrdom of 24 soldiers and was not inclined to change its decision. Therefore, Pakistan government should also stick to the parliament’s resolutions adopted in the light of the National Security Committee recommendations, and refuse to sell the martyrs blood.
Various religious and political parties have expressed strong reservations over resumption of NATO supplies as totally against the interests and security of Islam/Muslims During a joint discourse the Ameer of Difah-e-Pakistan Council, Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, Hafiz Abdul Rehman Makki, and JUI (I)’s Maulana Abdul Qadir and others have said that such a facility granted to NATO would be like abetting the genocide of Afghani Ummah. Expressing their resolve to carry on their nationwide protest against the resumption of NATO supplies, Ulema have discounted the move as ‘humanitarian’, terming it more like genocide of humanity. They cautioned all those basking in the false perception of Pak-USA friendship that America had never been loyal even to its coalition partners.
Berating government for standing along with America in perpetuating genocide of Afghans, they have given a clarion call to 180 million Pakistanis to oust American servitude from the region.
Difah-e-Pakistan has declared that Pakistani masses would never agree to resume supply for Allied forces, publicly involved in discretion of the Holy Quran on numerous occasions.
