In order to promote computer literacy among Pakistani young mothers and homemakers, the Intel Pakistan collaborated with `WeldonMoms’ to train aspiring young housewives in Karachi. A statement on Monay said that under Intel’s computer literacy drive, a day-long training programme was organized for a batch of 50 women using the latest machines, with an aim to help them venture into a business owing to lack of support, resources and confidence.
It said that this move would largely help those stay-at-home mothers and housewives who wanted to make an extra income while staying in their home.
Speaking at the event, Asma Aziz of Intel Pakistan said that the PC was a multifunctional device that would allow consumers to work, play, learn and do more things simultaneously.
“We believe that mothers and homemakers have the ability to shape the future of the entire family, and this initiative will help our women explore the wonders of a PC and the internet right at their door step,” she added.
The training covered a wide range of topics like understanding components of a PC, browsing the internet, chatting, sending emails and how they could use the computer to search information about schools and colleges, find new recipes, pay bills and payments through internet banking etc. Speaking at the occasion, Anila Weldon, founder for WeldonMoms, said that computers had become an important part of everyday life in today’s world. She said, “We have structured this training to develop technology literacy skills which involves exploring and discovering what can be done with these machines.”
