The government of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has given equal rights to the minorities in the country.
This was stated by the Provincial Minister for Minorities Affairs, Dr Mohan Lal, on Sunday. He was speaking as chief guest at a ceremony to distribute cheques among poor minority people at the People’s Secretariat here. The ceremony was held under the auspices of the PPP Minority Wing Karachi.
Dr Mohan Lal pointed out that in past the minority people were neglected but the PPP government has given equal rights to all the minorities of the country and now they are enjoying equal rights. He demanded that the quota for the minorities in the government services be enhanced from 5% to 10% and that they should be recruited in all cadres.
The Provincial Minister announced development schemes of Rs. 20 million for minorities in five districts of Karachi including “Esa Nagri”, the biggest and thickly populated area of Christian Community.
The President of the PPP Minority Wing Karachi Division, Mushtaq Matu, Iqbal Bhatti, Emanveil Gill, Madan Lat, Baji Maryam and others also spoke on the occasion.
