The National Assembly Standing Committee on Commerce declared on Monday that former secretary commerce Zafar Mehmood was found responsible over negligence in National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scandal.
Meeting of NA standing committee on commerce was held in Parliament House and presided over by Committee Chairman Khurram Dastagir.
The chairman while presiding the meeting said the NICL scandal was merged due to the negligence of the officials of Commerce Ministry, as administratively the ministry of commerce heads the NICL.
The committee showed concerns over lack of oversight over the issue and said that responsible people were facilitated and bails were awarded to them and ministry remained silent spectator to the situation.
Chairman of the committee said that Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) was a regulator body and actual responsibility of the case rested with then secretary commerce Salman Ghani.
Committee said that not a single person had been held responsible in this regard and directed officials of the ministry of commerce to give written reply regarding the issue.
Committee also directed to give details of the summary under which members of board of directors were appointed.
