Jamat-e-Islami Secretary General Liaqat Baloch has demanded of the government to take immediate notice of transport fares and other items of daily use in accordance with the reduction in petroleum prices. Appreciating the government’s step for cutting down the petroleum prices two times in a month, he said it should further trim down the prices in line with international market.
He said due to power outages many factories and industries had closed down, resulting in an increase in the prices of fertilizer, agricultural pesticides, seeds and other essential items. He said Pakistan was an agricultural country and it provided for 47 percent of the revenue, adding that therefore it was the responsibility of the government to facilitate the people involved in these sectors. Baloch deplored that despite all facts, government had never provided poor farmers and tenants with subsidy.
He further demanded of the government to increase the number of utility stores in the wake of Ramadan so the poor could make the most of it. He said the authorities concerned should take strict measures to maintain the prices on daily commodities. He said the provincial government should announce the subsidy on kitchen items and lessen the prices by 30 percent.
