The sale of firecrackers continues unchecked in the city in view of the approaching religious festival of Shab-i-Barat, which will be celebrated on Thursday night.
There is a ban on the firecrackers business, but these are being sold openly in many markets of the city, including Raja Bazzar, Sotar Gali, City Saddar Road, Naz Cinema, Kohati Bazzar and Committee Chowk. The people of the city have expressed concern over the sale of crackers, which they fear, may cause untoward fire incidents resulting into loss of lives and property. They alleged that police was not taking any action against the violators. Aslam Chaudhary, resident of the city, said the firecrackers business was being carried out in the congested bazaars, which may cause fire incidents. He said many fire incidents have occurred in the past because of such explosive material. He urged the authorities concerned to take action against the sellers of firecrackers and other explosive material.
