Earlier, the chief minister paid a surprise visit to various markets located in the old city area and MA Jinnah Road. He said that the Sindh government was committed to improving the law and order situation to resuscitate commercial and industrial activities in Karachi in particular and in the province in general. Mian Abrab lauded the chief minister for his visit to the markets and placed stress on the need to put concrete safety and security measures in place which would provide with visible results. He also apprised Shah about the KCCI’s successful visit to the United States. He added that as the KCCI delegation met important dignitaries of the US State Department and other organizations, it was argued that Pakistan wanted trade and market access rather than trade. In a meeting with the officials of the US Agency of International Development (USAID), he also introduced the unique concept of “aid for trade” to enhance bilateral trade between the countries. He informed Shah that the KCCI delegation also urged USAID to prepare a development and investment plan for the marble and granite sectors, particularly in Sindh. Views were also exchanged on energy, Pak-Iran gas pipeline and signing of a Pak-US bilateral investment treaty following the PAK-US free trade agreement.
