Obama declares ‘major disaster’ in blaze-hit Colorado

US President Barack Obama on Friday declared a “major disaster” in the western state of Colorado, where wildfires have destroyed more than 300 homes and forced 36,000 people to evacuate.
Obama was to visit the state later in the day. The declaration releases federal disaster assistance for state and local authorities battling the High Park and Waldo Canyon fires.
