Once again, girl students outshone boys by clinching top positions in the annual examination of the secondary school certificate (SSC). According to results announced by Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) here on Thursday, girls clinched top positions in both science and humanities groups.
This year total of 64,327 candidates appeared in the examination and 52,326 passed it with a passing rate of 81.34 percent.
According to the result announced by FBISE, Urooj Mustafa (146058) of Jinnah Education System, Taxila Cantt, clinched first position in science group with 1,024 marks while Irfa Urooj (187023) got first position in humanities group by obtaining 946 marks.
In science group, Moiz Rehan (102360) from Islamabad Model College for Boys bagged second position with 1,022 marks and Sana Shahid (151371) from Garrison Academy for Girls, Lahore Cantt, got third position by getting 1,020 marks.
While in humanities group, Aziz-ul-Haq (170049) from Institute of Islamic Sciences, Islamabad, bagged second position with 945 marks and Muhammad Usman (170054) from Institute of Islamic Science, Islamabad, secured third position with 932 marks. According to a press release issued by FBISE, a total of 41,912 regular candidates appeared in the science group including 25,151 boys and 16.761 girls. As many as 38,885 students passed the exam giving the success rate of 92.78 percent.
In humanities group, 49,692 candidates including 1,283 boys and 6,497 girls appeared in the final exam and 45,206 students passed it. The total pass percentage of this group remained 90.97 percent.
According to the result, total of 8,761 ex-private candidates appeared in the science group this year including 6525 boys and 2236 girls and total 4,701 ex-private candidates passed the exam thus giving a success rate of 53.66 percent.
While 14,635 ex-private candidates appeared in humanities group including 2,981 boys and 2,893 girls appeared in the exams. Some 7,120 candidates passed the exam and the pass percentage remained 48.65.
A spokesman for FBISE said that result cards of the regular candidates had been dispatched to the heads of their respective institutions and private students cards were being dispatched to their given address.
This year, 21 unfair means cases were reported and 18 cases have been decided after adopting a judicious procedure.

The FBISE will conduct SSC Supplementary Examination 2012 from September 12 (Wednesday). The result was announced in a ceremony held here at ministry of professional and technical training (MPATT).
While addressing the ceremony, Federal Minister Sheikh Waqas Akram warmly congratulated the position-holders. He said that MPATT would give cash prizes and laptops to the position-holders.
