The under-construction Darawat Dam will be completed by December with an estimated cost of around Rs 9.4 billion.
Official sources in WAPDA said that the dam was being constructed under a plan to build 32 small and medium sized dams in all provinces including FATA.
They said that the irrigation system of the project, located in Thatta and Jamshoro districts, was scheduled to be completed in June next year.
The concrete-faced rock-filled dam being constructed across the Nai Baran River some 70 Kilometers West of Hyderabad is 820-feet long and 141- feet high, which would store around 120,000 acres feet of water to help irrigate 25,000 acres of land, besides creating 4,500 employment opportunities, they said.
Annual benefits of the project were estimated at more than Rs 1 billion. Life of the project’s water reservoir would be more than 100 years.
The federal government has also announced to provide up to 25 acres of land to the poor women belonging to the project area.
