Peoples Doctor Forum President Senator Dr Kareem Khwaja said on Thursday that a total of 22,512 pints of blood were collected during the three-day blood donation drive organised across Sindh by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on the birth anniversary of Benazir Bhutto. While addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club, Senator Khwaja said that the three-day blood drive was organised all over Sindh from June 21 to 23, on the instructions of President Asif Ali Zardari. He added that the collected blood would be used to treat Thalassaemia patients in Sindh as well as poor patients in other provinces. He also announced the donation of 500 blood pints to Thalassemia patients in Gilgit-Baltistan. He thanked the Sindh Health Department, district administration, various blood banks, welfare organisations and workers of the PPP for their cooperation in the drive. PPP Sindh General Secretary Taj Haider and Sindh Additional Secretary Health Dr Sabir Memon were also present at the occasion.
