Upon being released from Kot Lakhpat Jail Lahore, Indian prisoner Surjeet Singh will be handed over to the Indian authorities at Wahga Border today. Awais Sheikh, advocate counsel of Surgeet Singh told APP here on Wednesday that his client was arrested by Pakistani police on the charges of spying. Singh was put behind bars during the tenure of former president Ziaul Haq and was sentenced to death by the courts.
Former president, Ghulam Ishaq Khan commuted Singh’s sentence to life imprisonment. Recently, president of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari traveled to Ajmer Sharif in India and as part of a goodwill gesture, ordered the release of Surjeet Singh.
