Seven SHC additional judges sworn in

As many as seven additional judges of the Sindh High Court (SHC) have taken oath for their offices. Sindh High Court Chief Justice Mubashir Alam administered the oath to the judges. According to media reports, the oath-taking ceremony was held on the premises of Sindh High Court. The additional judges who were swore in include Justice Aziz-ur-Rehman, Justice Riasat Ali Sehar, Justice Syed Farooq Shah, Justice Salah-ud-Din Pinhor, Justice Aftab Ahmed Golar, Justice Habib-ur-Rehman and Justice Farooq Channa. A large number of judges and lawyers attended the ceremony. After the oath-taking of seven additional judges, total strength of the Sindh High Court has become 24, however, 16 seats are still vacant. While speaking to the media after the ceremony, SHC Chief Justice Mushir Alam said that increase in the number of judges will help in imparting justice more effectively throughout the country. He said the government had assured of fixing a timeframe for the transfers and appointments in the police department following the court’s orders. The slum areas provide safe havens to criminals and it gets difficult for police to enter in such areas and conduct operations due to lack of development programmes there, the CJ said.
