People of all religious backgrounds are the children of Prophet Adam (PBUH) and Eve (AS) and should work together to make Pakistan a welfare state,” said former Karachi Mayor Nematullah Khan.
He was addressing a well-attended wedding ceremony here in the scorching desert area where some 20 couples tied the knot with the support of Al-Khidmat Foundation Pakistan.
Also, the former Karachi Nazim performed the groundbreaking of Charity Australia Thar Complex that would comprise a mosque, hospital, college, hostel, “Aghosh” and Zamzam project under which the Foundation has so far dug out at least 480 wells in the water-scarce district.
Flanked by President Al-Khidmat Foundation Professor Dr Hafeezur Rehman, Khan said the great sacrifices of the people of subcontinent required Pakistanis to work for the betterment of this homeland. He said, father of the nation, Mr Muhammad Ali Jinnah, wanted to make Pakistan an Islamic welfare state. “Pakistan can only be a welfare state when Islam is implemented (in the country) in letter and spirit,” said the former city nazim. He said Muslims, Hindus, Christians and all other minorities living in Pakistan were Pakistanis and should, therefore, join hands for the prosperity and progress of their homeland. “In (coming) elections we need to elect those who want to serve the people and make the country a welfare state,” Khan told the gathering.
He said it was heartening to see that without a specific movement an Islamic revolution was emerging in Egypt, Libya, Tunis and other Middle Eastern countries showing that the long-resisted change was imminent in the world. In the west, he said, the people had taken to the streets against the interest-based economic system, capitalism which had widened the gap between the rich and the poor. “We want to enforce a system that is from our common God,” Khan told the gathering that also comprised a large number of Hindus. On the occasion, Mir Muhammad Buledi, president of Al-Khidmat Foundation Tharparkar, announced to donate two new ambulances for the impoverished area people. The two-day event was attended among others a large number of media persons from across Pakistan. The newly-wed couples hailed from Mithi and Deplo tehseels of district Tharparkar.
