The Supreme Court has summoned the attorney general of Pakistan as prosecutor in the contempt of court case of Babar Awan. During the hearing on Wednesday, exchange of hot words took place between Babar Awan and Justice Athar Saeed on which the court instructed the former federal minister to mend his behaviour in the court by respecting the decorum. A two-member bench comprising Justice Ijaz Asghar and Justice Athar Saeed was hearing the case. Awan was present in the court along with his counsel Ali Zafar. During the proceedings, Awan directly asked the bench to stop his “media trial”, saying he was still a parliamentarian, and that the court was carrying out one-sided proceedings against him without listening to his lawyers. In response, Justice Athar Saeed asked Awan to let his lawyer speak but he replied that he had decided to fight his own case. “I would not flee from the case. The case has been going on since long but it was not told that whether it is a criminal case or civil case. Justice Ijaz Afzal said that the court would hear Awan’s opinion, as he was a senior lawyer. Justice Azhar Saeed said that Awan should not dictate the court.
