The lawyers’ fraternity across the city observed a strike to express solidarity with the Supreme Court (SC) and Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry on Wednesday. Lawyers hailing from various districts in protest against the conspiracies aimed at destabilizing the judiciary boycotted the courts proceedings. They were of the view that the sitting democratic government had treated the judicial institutions in the same manner as during the Musharraf era. They said that all their loyalties were with the CJP and would not allow anyone to harm or defame him. The protesting lawyers also raised their voice against the election of Raja Pervez Ashraf as the new Prime Minister of Pakistan. Meanwhile, the people who came to the courts had to suffer great hardships as the lawyers boycotted their routine duties.
