At least 12 pilgrims were drowned as an overloaded boat capsized in the Indus River near Thatta on Wednesday. As many as 20 people were rescued out of the river in an unconscious condition. According to the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF), the boat sank near the coastal area of Shah Bandar.
The total pilgrims boarding the boat were 35, while four motorcycles and eight goats were also sailing in the overloaded boat. They were going to attend the annual Urs of Allahdino Mendhro, a PFF member said. The deputy commissioner of Thatta said that the accident occurred due to strong winds.
