Who says our Supreme Court isn’t prompt enough? Nowadays, the Supreme Court’s registrar office is issuing a schedule of cases against the federal government every week. It’s much like local restaurants offering a special dish every other day which is not part of their routine menu. Yesterday, it was the contempt of court case against Gilani, today it’s the NRO (national reconciliation ordinance) implementation case; tomorrow, the case of national assembly members’ dual nationality will be taken up. And how can we forget the memo case and the May 02 commission reports and their follow up. For a change of taste, corruption and murder cases against Malik Riaz will be heard in between the hearings of anti-federal govt cases.
But even after the questionable dismissal of Gilani, apparently the hunt is not off. They are now after the top slot. The Lahore High Court (LHC) has formed a 3-judge bench to hear a contempt petition against President Zardari due to his involvement in political activities. Last year, the LHC heard a similar case and expressed its expectation (not ordered!) that being the head of state, Zardari shall not indulge in political activities. Now a petition has been filed in the LHC that President Zardari has not fulfilled the court’s expectations; therefore, he has contemned. The hearing is scheduled to start from June 27.
More and more special dishes are being added to the menu. Justice shall, indeed, be served.
