Meantime, police arrested from Mauripur, Furqan Tunta—an important character of gang war thus far continued in the city. According to SSP Amir Farooqi, Tunta, hailing from Ustad Taju group of Lyari Gangwar, has confessed killings of over 60 people in two years.
According to SSP Amir Farooqi, Furqan claimed to have killed activists of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) including Syed Hasan Raza, Atif Usmani and Ijtiba Khan. The bodies of all these three were found from Mirza Adam Khan Road of Lyari. Weaponry including two 7MM rifles and four hand grenades were seized from Furqan’s custody.
22 target killers, 20
extortionists nabbed, says malik: Advisor on Interior Affairs Rehman Malik on Monday revealed that 22 target killers and 20 extortionists had been arrested. He added that the arrested target killers were high-profile terrorists and that they were wanted by the police. He was talking to media after holding a meeting with FIA, NADRA and Rangers officials at the State Guest House in Karachi on Monday.
The advisor appealed to the people of Karachi to lodge complaints against anyone suspected of plotting a terror bid in their area. “The government wants peace in Karachi and for this purpose, President Zardari takes a progress report from me twice a week.” He said that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has been pressed under petitions. Sharifs are mostly seen in courts to remove the PPP government and all petitions lead to Lahore. Completion of government’s five-year tenure was only possible because of the friendship between Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain and President Asif Ali Zardari. Malik welcomed Hussain’s Sunday speech and said it showed solidarity with democracy and that it proved that he wanted peace and a stable security situation in Karachi.
