PPP leader seeks tripartite conference on labour issues

PPP Coordination Committee’s member and senior labour leader Habib-ud-Din Junaidi here on Sunday requested Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to order holding of a tri-party labour conference for a detailed discussion and consultation on the labour issues. “This will help promote confidence among the labour community who are facing different problems”, he mentioned during a brief meeting with the Prime Minister on the sideline of a dinner reception hosted for the PM by Pakistan People’s Party-Sindh, at the Chief Minister House , said a release on Monday.
He acknowledged that the present PPP-led Government under the guidance of President Asif Ali Zardari had taken historic steps to protect the rights of the labourers.
These included the restoration of thousands of employees in public sector organisations and regularization of the services of a large number of employees in different government organisations in the country.
He said the Government had done historic legislation for protecting the rights of workers. However, he said, the repeal of 27-B of Banking Companies Ordinance-1962 , restoration of employees of the privatized commercial banks and transfer of 12 percent shares of Habib Bank and others banks to their employees was still pending with the bureaucracy. Junaidi praised the Chairman Parliamentary Committee on National Security Senator Raza Rabbani, Federal Minister Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro for their sincere and concrete efforts for the welfare of the working class.
Habib-ud-Din Junaidi claimed that the Prime Minister listened to him patiently and assured that his proposals would be dully vetted and necessary action would be taken to the satisfaction of the workers and other employees.
