She is surely not the one to avoid a storm if it emanates from her plain talking. But even by her highly flammable standards former president Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Asma Jehangir on Monday stirred up quite a hornet’s nest. And there was something in it for making quite a few see red: the PPP, the PTI, the higher judiciary and the ubiquitous agencies.
Talking to media at the Lahore High Court, Asma made full use of the opportunity. Here’s a sampling of what she said: “the elevation of Raja Pervez Ashraf, the man deeply involved in the rental power scam, sends a wrong message to the people; “those who created the PTI were behind the conspiracy against the Supreme Court of Pakistan [obliquely referring to the Arsalan Iftikhar case]”. And, “if it was all about writing a letter, the court could have ordered its own Registrar Office to do that.”
Asma Jehangir minced no words on her perception of the new prime minister. “The SC has ruled in several corruption cases, but I am really sure about just one: Raja Pervez Asharaf’s”.
And to her view the motive behind ‘the conspiracy against the judiciary through the Arsalan Iftikhar case’ was to wrap up the democratic setup and to threaten the judges. “And those who created Tehrik-e-Insaf were the conspirators”, said she, adding, “The destruction of one institution can trigger a chain reaction.”
Clearing her own name, she said, she had not conspired against the court for she had never met the linchpin, the real estate tycoon Malik Riaz.
Continuing in the same hard-hitting vein, she said, if the intent was just to write the letter, “the SC could have written to Swiss authorities through its own Registrar”.
The preparations, she said, were underway to impose the martial law by derailing the democratic system.
Of all the people, Asma has taken on the most incensed are the PTI cadre, which is quite evident from the traffic that is being generated on the social media where their reaction is being posted thick and fast.
I don't know much about Asma except that she is really ugly.
I think Asma is a very attractive woman. But then again what would I know, I'm only an Anglo Saxon.

Forgive the nation Asma! From your "U" turn, it appears that you have been directed by certain agencies to say what you are saying today. All those who have some say in Pakistan's political arena are puppets in the hands of establishment. Why blame PTI (Imran) alone?

Asma Jahangir commands respect for her enormous contributions in the area of human rights in Pakistan. She is also quite a bold person who is not afraid of saying what comes to mind. However, political support system that helped her to win presidency of the supreme court might have influenced her opinion particularly when it comes to PTI. When you look at the history of all political parties, they flourished in a greenhouse environment of the military. In the the referred environment, Ms. jahangir's "verdict" against PTI seems planted. I expected from a person like her to have more responsible judgement than what she did and I can't help to express my my disappointment for such a poor statement only because her main opponent from the lawyers' community is also an important member of PTI. This kind of vindictive statement is well below her status.
Imran Khan is only leader who has an excellent rather exemplary track record of being pro-people by deeds NOT by statements only. He has a long history to reach to a point where he is today whereas other parties reached to the peak with no time with the referred support. I personally know many members of PTI who have absolutely no personal interest whatsoever but they have worked day and night for PTI only because the other parties have simply disappointed everyone for good. Trying to create doubts about a party that has attracted the most young persons, intellectuals and experts across the board, it is very unfair judgement on part of such a great lady to say the least. I have great respect for Ms. jahangir but I sorry to say that she could not give an objective assessment of PTI and that brings her in category of Aitzaz Ahsan: the person who did so much but ended up being just another Jiyala.
Why is it that now everyone has to be judged by a narrow PTI perspective? Asma Jehangir is an incredibly brave woman who has stood up for the rights of the oppressed despite overt threats by religious fanatics and covert threats from the intelligence agencies. There are very few people in the country who could match her level of courage. If one believes in a democracy then one should be tolerant of all and every shade of view provided it does not promote violence or encourage criminal behaviour.
Excellently put Khan Jr. We are severely lacking in tolerance except when it comes to the devil Zardari, Gilani & Sharifs.
I lost my respect for Ms. Asma Jehangir a long time ago. She may try and distance herself now but she is part of the elite ruling structure that has brought Pakistan to its knees.
Between liars, thieves and madmen, what is there for a tired people to choose? All will betray us and enrich themselves. All have no idea of how to fix the country.
It is not Asma but the real villan of the piece Hamid Khan that we should worry about. Behind his trademark dark glasses the man is an intriguer of the highrst order. God help the PTI if this man is to call the shots.

Ms Asma speaks what she believes and she speaks her conscience. I agree with her why the supreme court is fixated on writing a letter to the Swiss Courts. She was right to say SC could itself write a letter requesting Swiss government to reopen the case. Obviously, the SC could not possibly order them and it would be interesting to see what would be their response. They may even reject the request.
She knows everything :). She knew Hussain Haqqani is innocent :).

the only woman in the world i hate is this lady….she is always trying to make people feel as if she is only intelectual on this part of earth.to me she is an ordinary lady with below ordinary thoughts.its not she talking against many institutions ,she has been empowered by many foreign agencies to do so.This lady has always been pleased in mouthing out things against pakistan …..Iam not a pakistani nor am i pti member but im a muslim frm india,i can show u muslim women in india much intelligent ,innovative.thoughtfull and visionary than this non sence lady
