Army denies involvement in Gilani’s ouster

The Pakistan Army has denied any involvement in events leading to the ouster of the Yousaf Raza Gilani as the prime minister, saying the accusations, some of which come from the US, are “based on false narratives that do more harm than good for both nations”.
A senior Pakistani military official told The Washington Examiner his nation’s military had been falsely accused for years of using various insurgency groups, branches of government or political parties for their own benefit.
Recent charges that the military, with the cooperation of the courts, orchestrated the removal last week of Yousaf Raza Gilani, are the “latest in erroneous accusations,” he said. Gilani was replaced last week by Raja Pervez Ashraf after the Supreme Court disqualified Gilani for failing to investigate corruption charges against President Asif Ali Zardari.
“At first we were being accused of being in cahoots with the government — and now with the Supreme Court — to have the government removed, “the military official said. “We are not loyal to an individual but to the constitution of our country. Don’t place us in a camp because it suits the narrative of others for us to be placed in that camp.” “Now we are the villains,” the official added. “If we overstep our mandate it undermines us and our country’s constitution. We did not do this.”
Still, some senior US military and government officials contend that Pakistan’s military and its Inter-Services Intelligence Agency have been directing a systematic removal of government officials friendly to the United States. Bruce Riedel, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution who has advised the last four presidents on South Asia and the Middle East, said “the army and the court want to remove President Zardari and have tried one tactic after another.” “The army is politically powerful and is believed to be steadily chipping away at Zardari’s power behind the scenes,” said Jim Phillips, a senior defense analyst with The Heritage Foundation.
The army, added Phillips, would be happy to undermine the current government to prevent its civilian leaders from threatening its power and privileges. A US official, with knowledge of the region, said, “The political system is under strain but it would be an overstatement to say it’s at a breaking point.”
However, Riedel said the hardliners and the “political chaos in Islamabad makes any chance of an improvement in US-Pakistan relations very unlikely”.

  1. I doubt the present Pakistan army is capable of much. They can't even defend the borders of the country muchless oust a PM.

why don't you enter a barter trade with country of your choice and get their army in lieu. Remember wars are not fought by armies but nations and responsibilities also lies accordingly.

  2. Prostitutes and gays are sent outside their own countries to defend other countries borders.
Oust PM and Zardari have special affiliations for such defenders. Pakistan Army in neither of them. Lick the balls of Indians and Iranians who can provide help. Pakistan Army Balls are not extra for this shit which Daddy has written.

  3. Our leading politician recently said who is also now part of the government ' Our Army only needs One Jeep with a Major and a truck full of soldiers to remove any government'.. I don't know why our sleuths needed to clarify their position. Anyhow it is true that some power brokers are pulling strings from behind the curtains.

  4. Most of our national problems spring from Army's direct and indirect intervention in politics. It is wrong to say that Army has no role in removal of unanimously elected Prime Minister Gilani. Fact of the matter is that Army has been constantly interfering in political affairs. They have been manipulating judiciary to weaken the government. Till the time, Army officers are not forced to honour their oath of not to take part in politics, we have a bleak future. Army's policy of interfering in politics paved the way for massive corruption in Armed forces all around.

  5. Naive or may i say suicidal our nation is. The writer is (agencies) of this article. Do you understand that the first line of defense for pakistan is an intelligence agency which is demonized in the western world, the second line being the armed forces. They now are trying to make the public of pakistan also turn against them to make it a walk in the park. You wont hear anything about CIA in USA that kills hundreds of people and still come out as the savior.
After 4.5 years of democracy i think we should see the truth and call the spade a spade, but we wont and are hell bound on our own destruction as for the people writing here whose information is geo news and others like it.
