WASA MD sacked for not taking monsoons seriously

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif suspended the Managing Director (MD) Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) for his lack of interest in preparations to deal with any emergency during the upcoming monsoon season.
According to details, Sharif visited the site of widening of Allama Iqbal Road to observe the quality and pace of the development project here on Sunday. Talking to reporters on the occasion, he said that timely completion, transparency and ensuring quality of development projects is the top priority of the provincial government.
He urged the contractor and concerned officials to accelerate the work on underway development projects along with ensuring quality.
Shahbaz warned that no compromise would be made on projects of public interests and strict action would be taken against the elements involved in corruption and negligence.
MORE PLAYGROUNDS: Separately, Shahbaz said that his government would recover the government owned lands from illegal occupants and construct play grounds for youth.
He was speaking during a high level meeting regarding sports and projects of Pakistan Hockey Association at Chief Minister tent office here on Sunday.
The meeting was attended by MNAs, MPAs and high officials of various departments.
Shahbaz said PML-N led Punjab government would introduce effective system for proper look after of the playgrounds.
He said provincial government was planning to build separate playgrounds for both genders to provide them equal opportunities of sports.
Shahbaz said that steps taken to promote sports and horticulture would help the youth for taking part in positive and vigorous activities.
The chief minister stressed the need for guiding the youth and assisting them so as to save them from indulging in social evils and criminal activities.
Shahbaz also said no society can progress without dispensation of justice. He was listening to the complaints of visitors to his tent office at Minar-e-Pakistan.
He directed the police to stop the cruel practices against the people and protect the weak segments of the society adding that the people coming to the police station with their problems should be treated with courtesy.
The CM issued directives on the spot to satisfy some of the complainers.
He said if the police deal with the common people kindly at lower level, they would not feel the need for meeting the CM.
