The PML(N) Chief Mian Nawaz Sharif while addressing a rally in Swat said that those who mistreat the judges of SC should meet the fate of disqualification like former PM Yousaf Raza Gilani. I would like to ask him what about his own treatment as a PM was when his party coworkers attacked the SC and then the former CJ Sajjad Ali Shah had to leave unceremoniously. What about the role of a former judge who was later awarded with the presidential post who took the chamak to Balochistan to divide the apex court?
It is a general perception that the PML(N) was more active in restoring the judiciary to wash away its past sin although the PPP lost more workers while demanding the restoration and its leader Aitzaz Ahsan was one of the leaders of Lawyers Movement, (now discredited by the section of lawyers).
A question that one is forced to ask is why is the judiciary not prepared to wait till President Zardari completes his terms and then ask the government to write a letter to the Swiss Authorities to open cases against him as then a PM will not have to breach the constitution as was claimed by the former PM Gilani because Article 248 clearly provides immunity to the president and governor. Why has the judiciary been so blatantly against PPP leaders? Shouldn’t they try not to be primarily in the interest of justice but also particularly because the sentencing of PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in 1979 is now accepted by all to be a judicial murder?
Why is an impression being created by the judiciary itself that it is biased? Why did the CJ not show any restraint while taking a decision about the disqualification about Yousaf Raza Gilani?
How many PMs will be disqualified and how many will be elected by the parliament in the next eight months is the question every thoughtful Pakistani asks. Who will be the ultimate winner or loser? As they say, only time will tell.
