Punjab Assembly Saturday approved Rs 57.14 billion supplementary budget for fiscal year 2012-13. During budget approval the opposition pointed out quorum twice which the treasury succeeded in fetching the required strength in the House.
Today the session was commenced with routine delay of 45 minutes against its scheduled 10 am time with Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal in the chair. Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman winding up the budget debate told the House that the supplementary amount was used under unavoidable circumstances while Rs 23.90 billion were saved and diverted for supplementary budget. He said that suggestions and proposals given by both the treasury and opposition members were given serious thought, adding that the impressive ones would be included in the next budget. He said the opposition’s reservations about supplementary grant were groundless and had no reality. The opposition on this occasion presented cut motions regarding irrigation, land revival and health sector which the House rejected with majority.
