The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Islamabad, will launch World Drug Report 2012 here on June 25 (Monday) at the National Library Auditorium.
The World Drug Report provides an overview of recent trends and the drug situation in terms of production, trafficking, consumption and the consequences of illicit drug use in terms of treatment, drug-related diseases and deaths. The event will include a presentation and focusing on drug challenges in Pakistan.
It also presents a long-term perspective on the characteristics and evolution of the drug problem and the main factors that shaped it.
It discusses the main characteristics of contemporary drug problem, followed by an overview of the shifts observed over last few decades, before concluding with an analysis of the driving factors that shaped the evolution of drug problem, including a brief outlook for its likely future direction.
Narcotics Control Secretary Javed Iqbal and Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) DG Maj-Gen Malik Zafar Iqbal will also attend the ceremony.
