Institute for Preservation of Art and Culture (IPAC) in collaboration with Kuch Khaas will hold a live concert with Bakshi Brothers to celebrate World Music Day here on Thursday (today).
Bakshi Brothers are an emerging group of young musicians hailing from traditional musical families, or Gharanas.
Their gripping music features traditional Sufi, folk and classical songs alongside the use of contemporary instruments in a refreshing style. The result is a brilliant blend of Sufi philosophies and guitar chords, said the organizers.
World Music Day first took place on June 21, 1976. Since then, it has been a festivity embraced internationally with the slogan Faites de la Musique (Make music). This year, the federal capital has also joined the festivities with some contemporary aged Pakistani music blended with traditions.
Music lovers and those associated with music as a profession will celebrate World Music Day across the globe including Pakistan on June 21 to show respect for all forms of music.
Instrumentalists, singers, composers, ensembles, individual musicians, musicologists and other related to the field of music will mark the day with concerts, community events and other programmes to highlight the value of music as part of life.
World Music Day celebrates the magical gift of music as local and amateur musicians are allowed and encouraged to perform their music in public spaces without any restriction in many communities.
The music lovers consider it as a fabulous day to celebrate the spirit of music in all its forms. “Music is a part of the way of life and such days offer a unique treat to highlight and know about the value of music in our daily life,” said Director General Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), Tauqeer Nasir while talking to APP.
The Eastern traditions have a lot to celebrate in terms of Music as they carry many forms of music including folk, classical, sufi music, contemporary, pop and some other styles, he said.
The music developed and practiced in Pakistan is full of positive messages to purify soul and this day serves as a reminder to all musicians that music is, first and foremost, a powerful art through which people’s life can be changed.
Music – the rhythm of instruments and vocals is also used as music therapy to deal with physical, emotional, mental, social, aesthetic and spiritual conditions.
“Music is an inspirational performing art and the international days regarding music give us an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of all those connected to this field,” he said.
