Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Mohammad Iqbal on Wednesday formed a committee to probe the exchange of shoes during the House proceedings.
The speaker also expunged the remarks of Sheikh Alauddin against the female opposition lawmakers.
Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) member Seimal Kamran retaliated against the foul language used by the treasury member by hurling her shoe upon him. In response, Anjum Safdar of the ruling PML-Nawaz, retaliated in the same fashion and threw a shoe on the opposition members.
Afterwards, the members from both the treasury and the opposition started shouting at each other, and the House within minutes turned into a fish market.
Nobody was ready to pay heed to the speaker, who kept asking the members to maintain decorum.
Amid deafening noise, the members continued to exchange harsh slogans against each other’s parties. However, the speaker announced to form a committee for looking into the shoe throwing issue and also expunged the remarks by Sheikh
Alauddin.
At this stage, the opposition also opted for a token boycott. The speaker sent ministers to bring them back but the invitation went in vain.
PML-Q parliamentary party leader Chaudhry Zaheeruddin demanded that the speaker should take action against the person who initiated the act of throwing shoes, besides asking Alauddin to apologise for the remarks he had made.
Earlier, PML-Q member Allah Yar Hiraj, speaking on a point of order, alleged that the Punjab government was sponsoring terrorism under the garb of load shedding. He alleged that the residences of PML-Q lawmakers were being attacked and burnt. He claimed that his and Riaz Fatayana’s houses had been ransacked by PML-N
workers.
The session commenced with a delay of one hour against the scheduled time of 10:00am.
