NA to select new PM today

Major political stakeholders are flexing their muscles vigorously to launch their candidates as a short term Prime Minister in political arena as the selection of new Prime Minister would be carried out today in a National Assembly session.
President Asif Ali Zardari summoned National Assembly’s session under Article 32 and 33 of the constitution to elect 25th Prime Minister of the state after the disqualification of Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani by the Supreme Court while voting for new Prime Minister would be materialized on the bases of division.
Under this method two lobbies of the parliament would be reserved for voting and the voter would go to their respective candidates while the staff of national assembly secretariat would register names of the voters who are standing in two different lobbies.
The speaker National Assembly would announce detailed result of the polling, including the name of winner , total vote cast and how many vote each candidate gets after the completion of voting process .
This way the process of selection of new Prime Minister would come to its end. For the selection of PM it is necessary that the candidate must get 172 votes out of 342 votes.
After election on Friday, the majority candidate will emerge as the Prime Minister-elect, till he takes oath of the office to become a Prime Minister. After taking oath, the new Prime Minister will seek vote of confidence from the House.
The newly elected Prime Mister would deliver speech to the parliament afterward oath taking ceremony of the PM would be held in President House.
Earlier, Makhdoom Shahabuddin and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) submitted their candidatures for the election of new prime minister on Thursday.
The PPP has also fielded Raja Pervaiz Ashraf as the cover candidate.
