Pakistan’s suspended right-arm fast bowler Mohammad Asif may join his daughter’s first birthday next month. Speaking from London, the 30-year-old Asif, who has been serving the seven year suspension for his alleged role in the spot-fixing, said exclusively: “My daughter, Aiza is completing her first year on July 2 and I am very keen to be with my family on this occasion. I have requested my wife Sana to apply for visa and arrive here with our daughter so that we can celebrate her birthday together.” However, there are chances that Asif’s daughter may be denied visa as was the case with Salman Butt’s youngest son. “In that case, I will go to Pakistan and be with my family,” Asif added. Last year on 1 November, Mohammad Asif was convicted, along with Mohd Amir and Salman Butt, of gambling and accepting payments and was sent to jail. On 3 May, Asif completed half of his punishment term and was released from Canterbury Jail. However, he has been in England for more than nine months. Media reports in Pakistan had initially speculated that Asif had married Veena Malik. However, both denied that the marriage took place. On October 1 in 2010, Asif married Sana Hilal, a resident of Karachi. The news about the psychologist appointed for Mohammad Amir made no impact on Asif. “I have no contact with the PCB now,” he said. However, Asif will need to take part in a PCB anti-corruption programme once his suspension is over.
