Cutting of trees to be treated as crime: minister

Sindh Minister for Environment Shaikh Muhammad Afzal has said that increasing environmental pollution has become a threat to the country in general and for Sindh in particular.
He said this while presiding over a meeting regarding environmental issues here in his office on Wednesday. The Minster was of the view that it was a matter of duty for every citizen of Sindh to take active part in eradicating the environmental pollution through plantation in their respective areas. He directed the officials for taking legal action against the those found involved in cutting trees.
The Minister said that no one will be allowed to destroy the greenery which protects our environment from pollution. He urged upon government officials and industrialists to ensure that industry should meet the IEQS (International Environmental Quality Standards) and that effluent, emissions and solid waste should be treated properly.
Secretary Environment Mir Hussain Ali and other officials attended the meeting.
