Following the incident of train burning in Kamonki, Pakistan Railways (PR) have stopped all passenger trains in Lahore division on Tuesday.
The irate people on Monday protesting against the unscheduled and prolonged electricity load shedding set ablaze Baoo Express train in Kamonki to give vent to their anger.
The railway authorities held the local police and fire brigade responsible for the Baoo train incident, adding that the police played the role of silent spectator amidst the plundering protesters. Deputy Superintendent Railway Javed Anwar said that they were unable to resume operations until the security assurances were provided to them. “In 2007, after the assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto, it was the second occasion that the violent protesters set ablaze a train,” he said. He said Pakistan Railway was already suffering from crises and now the violent mobs had started targeting passenger trains. “In this critical situation we can not continue with our operations,” the frustrated officer said. The trains asked to suspend operations include trains from Lahore to Rawalpindi including four Railroad cars, two Awami Express trains, Lasani, Allama Iqbal and Khyber Express.
