Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry Tuesday said that judges respect the Parliament and want to uphold the national institutions and their prestige.
Opening up Tuesday’s proceedings in National Assembly Speaker’s ruling case before three-member bench, Attorney General of Pakistan Irfan Qadir said there should be no clash between the national institutions, a private TV channel reported.
Chief Justice Chaudhry said there is no clash among the institutions at present.
Bringing alive from his repertoire some queer forte, the AG Qadir said the Parliament is empowered to annul the apex court’s rulings.
The AG Qadir, whose brazen remarks triggered a massive commotion during one of the previous hearings, continued with remarks, saying, “Supreme Court could have written on its own to Swiss officials.”
Alleging the apex court treaded the unconstitutional path, Qadir said the summon issued to Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani was also an unconstitutional one.
