A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed hearing of Speaker’s ruling over issue of contempt of court case against Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, according to a local TV channel.
The bench was hearing petition filed by PML-N, PTI, Azhar Chaudhry and others challenging NA Speaker’s ruling over the disqualification of PM issue.
In today’s hearing, Attorney General Irfan Qadir presented in court the National Assembly’s resolution endorsing the speaker’s ruling.
The attorney general said that they respected courts and the clash among institutions of the state should be avoided.
On this Justice Chaudhry remarked that the judiciary respected the parliament and that there was no clash between the state’s institutions.
1) Supreme Court has no business to hear these petitions. It must not interfere in Parliamentary proceedings.
2) Tainted CJ must not hear any case. He should step down. Familygate investigation is not possible without interrogating Iftikhar, his wife and all children. It is not a question of Iftikhar alone. His entire family was beneficiary.
