Wake up and smell the TNT
Whatever hopes the real policy makers might have harboured about the “ good Taliban” should be dampened by what Zabihullah Mujahid told Reuters on Sunday. The spokesman of the militant outfit has showered praises on India for allegedly rejecting Washington’s demands of taking over some of its responsibilities after the Nato withdrawal. The Taliban have assured New Delhi that, once in power, they would not allow anyone to use Afghanistan as a base against another country. That should put an end to the daydreams of a docile Taliban government in Afghanistan willing to provide strategic depth to Pakistan army.
Policies made by those with limited political understanding have harmed the country a lot. Among other things they have led to the reduction of Pakistan’s role in the regional strategic equation. The safe havens where terrorists gathered from all over the world continue to operate freely pose a grave threat to the world at large, particularly the neighbouring countries. The otherwise reticent Chinese now frequently express unhappiness over the training the East Turkestan Islamic Movement activists continue to receive in North Waziristan. Iran is unhappy on account of the Jundullah activists using areas in Pakistan as launching pads. Despite claims that Pakistan has religious and cultural ties with Afghanistan and the same tribes live astride the Durand Line, Kabul has sought strategic ties with India while it accuses Pakistani agencies of being behinds the terrorist attacks taking place inside Afghanistan. Talks with New Delhi remain stalled over crucial issues because of lack of confidence. Not much development is expected during the meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries next month as Islamabad is unwilling to reining, let alone take to the court with strong evidence, some of the militant leaders avowedly involved in Mumbai attacks who are now spreading hatred against India through TV channels and public meetings.
Pakistan’s policymakers need to thoroughly review the current policy towards the militant groups who besides creating estrangement with important neighbours continue to launch deadly attack inside the country. The militants deserve zero tolerance irrespective of their hue or colour.
i fully agree.the time pakistan was busy in fighting war of others and communalizing its society, and being yesman of US,if it had spend that in building itself, pak wont have drifted to such a mess.all those whom pak helped are backstabbing.
