Lord Nazir Ahhttp://archive.pakistantoday.com.pk/wp-admin/media-upload.php?post_id=195585&type=image&TB_iframe=1mad said the economic challenges facing Pakistan required out-of-the-box solutions and a proactive private sector role.
Talking to a 37-member delegation, headed by LCCI President Irfan Qaiser Sheikh, he said this necessitated that the business community should come forward and join hands with their global counterparts as it had the ability to do so.
He stated that the only those countries performed well where the private sector was playing its due role with little reliance on public sector.
He pointed out many sectors of the UK’s economy offered opportunities that could be exploited by Pakistani businessmen, if they adhered to modern business techniques and methodologies, in order to increase the existing business volume between Pakistan and the UK.
He stressed that Pakistani businessmen should take advantage of the potential and expertise of a large number of Asians, especially Pakistanis, living in the United Kingdom.
He lauded Pakistanis as having talents that were second to none in the world, but their abilities needed to be channelised to achieve progress and prosperity.
Speaking on the occasion, LCCI President Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said the Lahore Chamber of Commerce was a supporter of trade diplomacy and believed that it could be of great help in paving the way for further strengthening the bilateral economic relations.
Urging Lord Nazir Ahmad to motivate English investors to make Pakistan a lucrative destination for investment, the LCCI president said Pakistan had lucrative investment opportunities for UK businessmen in various sectors like telecommunications, information technology, financial services, Petrochemicals, livestock, dairy, consumer goods, food processing Pharmaceuticals, minerals, and particularly the energy sector.
The LCCI president said the business community always appreciated the UK government for supporting its market access to the European Union.
“We urge you people to voice your support to the European Commission’s proposal to extend the GSP Plus eligibility to Pakistan. It will certainly help in bringing the much needed economic turnaround.”
Qaiser Sheikh said the presence of different multi-national companies from UK which are growing and doing well in Pakistan indicated the fact that there were ample opportunities and potential for UK investors for business in Pakistan.
