The Lahore High Court (LHC) has said the case against media persons is already under prosecution in the Supreme Court, so the LHC cannot interfere in the case. Chief Justice Justice Umar Ata Bandyal was hearing the case of the allegations leveled on real estate tycoon Malik Rian about bribing media persons. LHC chief justice said on Monday that the off-air talks during the talk shows should be a part of the record.
He lauded the historic role of the media persons who presented themselves for accountability.
The petition was filed by the electronic media reporter’s welfare association.
Justice Umar Ata Bandyal appreciated the role of the media for creating awareness and said 99 percent of the journalists were performing their duties sincerely while black sheep were present in every department.
The petitioner’s counsel, Azhar Siddique withdrew the petition. A petition was filed by the Electronic Media Reporters Association (EMRA) in the Lahore High Court on Friday requesting the court to hold a judicial enquiry to expose the people involved in the media scandal disclosed by Malik Riaz.
