The spokesman of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) on Monday launched a publicity campaign regarding conservation of water in the metropolis. He said that stickers of various sizes have been prepared with the collaboration of the private sector to highlight the significance of water, its utility and judicious use.
The stickers would be pasted at prominent public places in the city and would also be distributed among the school children. Teachers would also be requested to apprise the students about the importance of water and its conservation. The Managing Director of KWSB, Misbahuddin Farid, has said, “It should be our collective duty to try our best to conserve water and ensure its judicious use.” He said that every effort should be made to try and avoid the wastage of water.
Work on Garhi Khuda Bux cricket ground to be completed soon: Zaka: Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Muhammad Zaka Ashraf Monday visited PCB Cricket Ground Garhi Khuda Bux Bhutto to review the development of the ground and other related facilities.
Talking to media persons, he said the PCB will provide security to international players.
He stressed the need to develop a cricket academy for the young people in the province.
He said President Asif Ali Zardari has directed the authorities concerned to establish Larkana as a separate region for the PCB.
He said the PCB will give opportunity to the youth of this area so that they can perform better in the upcoming national events. For the purpose, he said the Garhi Khuda Bux Bhutto cricket ground will be completed soon. The PCB chairman promised participation of youth at the district level.
He said talented cricketers of these areas will be given opportunities.
He said cricket promotes brotherhood and tolerance among the people and “we need to create an environment of love and harmony in the country”.
The members of the board of governors of the PCB, including Javed Miandad, Intikhab Alam, Major (Retd) Syed Naeem Akhtar Gilani, Amir Nawab, Tariq Baloch, Mir Haider Ali Khan Talpur, Chaudhrt Muhammad Anwar and others were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chaudhary Zaka Ashraf said on Monday that there was high talent in the Sindhi youths but much attention was needed to polish their talents.
Talking to newsmen after holding a meeting at a rest house in Gari Khuda Bux, he said that President Asif Ali Zardari had directed him to establish a cricket stadium in Larkana to promote the talent of Sindhi youths. He added that the Gari Khuda Bux cricket stadium would be completed before the proposed time.
The PCB Chairman said that the Sindhi youth could take active part in the national team but only guidance and attention was needed. He said that the district level matches could play good part in the brotherhood, tolerance and in the development of a healthy society.
To a question he said that the trend of mach fixing was ended forever. “There would be no match fixing in the future,” he claimed.
He also visited the graveyard of Bhutto family and offered Fateha at the graves of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto and others.
Tobacco products price issue to be resolved: Afridi: State Minister for Commerce Abbas Khan Afridi Monday ensured the Tobacco stakeholders to resolve their price fixation issues soon.
A meeting of Pakistan Tobacco Board was held under the chairmanship of State Minister for Commerce Abbas Khan Afridi to discuss the fixation of tobacco prices and its related matters. The meeting was aimed to protect the interests of local tobacco producers regarding fixation of prices and to solve issues of local growers. The meeting at length discussed the problems and issues of all stockholders and the possible remedial measures to resolve these problems.
State Minister for Commerce ensured all stakeholders especially the growers that ministry of commerce would do every measure for assistance and promotion of the local growers.
The meeting was also informed that tobacco sector had a great potential for generating tremendous amount of revenues for the country.
The meeting concluded with the remarks that the ministry of commerce would ensure to resolve all issues of the stakeholders and the fixation of prices would be done only after taking all stakeholders on board.
The meeting was attended by representatives from tobacco companies, tobacco growers, dealers and official from ministry of commerce.
