Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani said on Monday that Pakistan Army did not want to fight its own people, but it had been compelled to launch an operation against militants in Waziristan.
The COAS visited the area and inaugurated Sainkai Ragi Zai Cadet College. He also reviewed security situation and ongoing development work in South Wazirstan Agency. While addressing the inauguration ceremony of the college, he said the institute would be built at a cost of Rs 500 million. The army chief said that infrastructure would be built in South and North Waziristan agencies. Besides, a third route would be opened in the area for trade with Afghanistan. Kayani said the army had started as many as 121 uplift projects in Malakand Division and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). The Peshawar Corps commander briefed the COAS on several ongoing developmental projects in the area. Meanwhile, Kayani also held a meeting with tribal elders and assured them of the military’s full cooperation.
US-funded Road in SWA: Amidst tensions with the United States over reopening of NATO supply routes, army chief General Ashfaq Kayani on Monday inaugurated the US-funded Kaur-Gomal-Tanai-Wana Road in South Waziristan.
“The US-funded Kaur-Gomal-Tanai-Wana Road in South Waziristan was inaugurated today in Tanai by Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Kayani, along with the authorities from FATA Secretariat and Frontier Works Organisation,” said a US embassy statement. A diplomatic source said Pakistan and the US had been able to cover some ground as for their settlement of row over NATO supplies for which Pakistan had been demanding US apology over airstrikes on its border posts by US aircraft last year. “The inauguration of a US funded road in South Waziristan by the army chief is most likely an indication of ongoing successful bilateral efforts for ending the deadlock over NATO supplies,” he said. “The 105-kilometer road is part of the FATA Secretariat’s FATA Infrastructure Project,” the US embassy statement said.
“The United States is proud to partner with the government of Pakistan in rebuilding key roads and infrastructure in the FATA,” said Karen Freeman, acting director of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission in Pakistan. “We believe our joint efforts will bring commerce, jobs, trade and long-term security to this important region of Pakistan.” The road connects to the US funded 110 kilometers Tank-Makin road, which was completed earlier this year, at Kaur providing the populations of Murtaza Kot, Nilikatch, Gomal Zam, Tanai, Tiarza and Wana in the South Waziristan Agency access to Tank, D.I. Khan and other parts of Pakistan. USAID has contributed over US$260 million for roads and other key infrastructure projects in the FATA, according to statement.

    • Just a little question "Pak Army doesn't want to operate in north Wazirastan, has america convinced army to do it?" No then why you guys keep blaming army all the way for all problems?

  1. When people have no free will as they are forced to elect one of the two available corrupts, similiarly our executives are forced to do what is required by their sponsors.

  2. Army is good at launching operation at its own unarmed people. When confronted by ANY foreign force, they run with their tails between their legs.

    • The junior officers follow the example set by senior officers. The generals are not setting a good example. Army generals are more interested in making money than defending the country. They will operate with heavy machinery to kill innocent people in swat but they dare not stop the drones. Pity the nation that has these kind os generals.

  3. All my dear who commented! he meant that we are not operating happily in Wazirastan but we are forced by the terrorists to go after them. It was TTP who forced army to operate there when they killed our security personnel. If they didn't do it, Army would never had gone there. As long as people say America forced army to go there, I wanna ask just a little question "Has america convinced Kiyani to operate in North Wazirastan ye?" the answer is NO. America wanted Pak Army to operate in NWA but army has never shown any willingness. Army has been taking pressure from past several years calmly but still no outcome. So plz stop army bashing.
    Best Regards

  4. He is Absolutely Right, Pakistan Army Do Not Want this and can never want this, Actually This is HIM Personally who wants this upon orders of his Best friends in West. If Pakistan Army again Says YES on these Orders of Him then This WAR of Fitna Will become more intense and Loss will be of Msulims on Both sides, He will enjoy his life as Musharaf is doing in London, Washington etc…

  5. Why You trying to Blame Pakistan Army By Saying So that They were Forced to do so, It was You along with you Bosses Musharaf & Western Generals during Lal Masjid Operation days who wanted this FITNA WAR between Muslims (Of Both Side, Tribal and Army). Now it has been exposed and People Know that this WAR is of US interests, Pakistan faced huge loss in it. Now Your face Mask has also been OFF, at this time you are trying to show Your own Army as guilty of those Blunders, but the fact is Sincere People in Pak Army also started disliking you.

  6. He reminds me of a joke, where the donkey was working on the seat of lion and a mouse was working on the seat of an elephant. Now imagine of such kingdom and compare it to our lands under such cowards today. Not much different.
    Regards

  7. Whom shall we believe than?
The Pakistanis who declare Pakistan Army being subservient to US or US+India+Afgahnistan who blame Pakistan Army to be at war with them?

If those states have no threat from Pakistan Army than why are those states spending on their defence, more than ever?

Recently, Pakistani courts have also confirmed that Ambassador Hussain Haqqai was working for US against Pakistan Army, which triggered from a request of Zardari to US for take over of Pakistan army.

  8. The Army Chief is a puppet of America. It has been quite clear that seemingly any steps taken in the defence of his people is only to momentarily appease them so that he not lose support. The reality is that he has been badly exposed. It is little wonder that the list of missing persons who hold him to account through peaceful political means, is on the rise. Sign of a defeated dic-traitor.
