Russell Brand, who has been a long-term supporter of the Tibetan cause, boasted about his sex life while fulfilling his role as an unlikely compere for the Dalai Lama in Manchester.
The 37-year-old comedian had Tibet’s celibate spiritual leader in fits of giggles as they made an unlikely double-act in front of 11,000 people.
At one point, the 76-year-old Buddhist monk wagged his finger at the actor and then playfully tugged his beard. Brand bragged how he had won “Shagger of the Year award” thrice.
“Some of you might be surprised to see me here. I’ve gone from being Shagger of the Year three times to introducing the Dalai Lama,” the Sun quoted him as saying. “It has certainly been an interesting journey. The Dalai Lama told me ‘We are all just people’ and I’ve taken that on board as I was very nervous meeting him,” he said.
The Nobel Peace Prize winner couldn’t help laughing at Brand’s humour. “Some people told me before to listen to this strange person’s explanations,” Dalai Lama said. “I was surprised but I think your openness is wonderful,” he said. Brand introduced the Dalai Lama’s address entitled Century Of Dialogue – Stand Up and Be the Change. Dalai Lama’s tour aims to spread his teachings of peace and understanding to youngsters. Brand described the Dalai Lama as “intense and sort of mellow, which is what you expect of someone who meditates five times a day”.
