Jamshoro police gunned down four suspected dacoits during an exchange of fire on Indus Highway near the Toll Plaza on Sunday. DSP Jamshoro Abdul Ghafoor Lakho told a press conference that the dacoits were robbing a 10-wheeler truck carrying chickpea bags when the police reached the spot.
“They opened fire as soon as they saw the mobile approaching and then they fled in the other truck in which they had shifted the bags,” he added.
The DSP maintained that the truck in which the dacoits were escaping overturned and while the suspects started to flee on their feet they again opened fire on police. “They were 8 to 9 men. Only 4 of them were shot to death in the exchange of fire,” he added.
The slain suspects have been identified as Najam Shoro, Irfan Ali Shoro, Nawaz Shoro and Ghulam Shoro.
Truck driver, Muhammad Ameen, whose truck was being looted in his statement recorded to the police said that the dacoits were stealing bags when they saw the police. They were the first who fired and later escaped, he adds.
Meanwhile, the relatives of the slain suspects resorted to protests and aerial firing as they moved through Kotri taluka of Jamshoro district to force the markets shut. The residents of Daboo Shoro village also staged sit-ins outside the SSP Office, Kotri police station and the railway crossing. They condemned the police for what they called as “staging a fake encounter.” They called action against the policemen who were involved in the encounter.
