Anjuman-e-Ettehad Bus Malikan Karachi (AEBMK) has welcomed the cut in petroleum prices and called upon the transporters to reduce their fares to trickle down the effect to the common man.
President Karachi Transport Action Committee of AEBMK, Muhammad Ashraf Banglori and other officials of this Committee, in a statement here on Sunday, said that with reduction in the prices of diesel and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) there is good space for the transporters to revise their fares down so that the commuters can also get relief from the reduction in POL prices. They said that about seventy percent public transport had converted to CNG fuel. The Ministry of Transport should issue a notification of reduction in fares accordingly, for the benefit of the general public. They recommended that the Government should take strict legal action against the transporter(s), if any, for their failure to comply with the notification. The transporters’ representatives maintained that the fares being charged from commuters were based on the diesel prices. Whereas, they continued, most of the public transport had switched over to CNG that is low priced. Hence, the transporters are bound to give relief to the general public; especially after the significant reduction in CNG and diesel prices, they maintained.
