The city of blights

Karachi has totally been handed to criminal elements on a plate by the current federal and provincial government. While the federal home minister insists on giving preposterous statement after preposterous statement on the city’s condition, there isn’t even a dedicated provincial home minister to begin with as the portfolio is being handled by the chief minister. It is no wonder that the spate of targeted killings has continued unabated and the city is deep in the throes of violence.
Political expediency has trumped all concerns for peace and stability in the country. All the parties involved in the current imbroglio are part of the ruling coalition. Why is it then they have not even succeeded in ameliorating the situation even a little bit. Rather, it has considerably worsened with each passing year of the incumbents’ tenure. They have power and the resources at their disposal but the real issue is the lack of political will. There is a reluctance to call a spade a spade and actually uproot the criminal elements wreaking havoc on the city. If the ruling parties keep compromising with parties that are patronising criminal mafias, then Karachi will keep bleeding and burning. Seems no one is willing to stem the rot.
