KMC to establish vocational training centers

KMC Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed said KMC has started work on the establishment of 10 vocational training centers besides the 18 model schools in Karachi under public private partnership basis. These vocational training centers would impart various technical skills to youth to provide them with the opportunity to earn their livelihood.
He said this while addressing as chief guest in the certificate distribution ceremony for students who performed well in various sectors of government model schools established by KMC and FPCCI’s joint committee for monitoring & improvement of schools.
He said the students of government run schools have demonstrated brilliant performance on national and international level and proved that the students from poor and middle class could also perform well if they were given better facilities.
Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed said that the middle class had the ability to bring the revolution in our system and to run the whole system in an effective way.
He urged the well offs to come forward and join hands with the government sector in bringing more improvement in the educational system. He said the FPCCI and the traders and business community of Karachi deserves praise in this connection.
The Honorary Guest Haji Fazl Qadir Sherani President FPCCI said students of government schools did not lack any ability and they only need to be encouraged and patronized. He said FPCCI and millions of traders and industrialists associated with it would always help and support the KMC endeavors in this regard.
Ahmed Chinoy the Vice Chairman of CMIS said a memorandum of understanding was signed in 2006 between the CMIS and KMC under which a total of 3782 schools had to be upgraded. He said we had selected 18 model schools in the city and improved their buildings and environment that had ensured better educational facilities for about 60 thousand students.
He further stressed the need of bringing improvement in the schools located in the rural and sub urban areas of Karachi.

KMC starts constructing alternate residence: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has started construction work of alternate residential block for residents of dilapidated Bhagwandas Building on Saturday. The residential block with joint bathrooms and other facilities were being constructed on a piece of land at KMC Workshop which had been previously used for stationing of Machinery Pool Vehicles of B&R Division. Metropolitan Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan on Saturday paid a visit of the construction site and inspected the ongoing work. He was accompanied by the concerned engineer and other officers. On this occasion he said that the Bhagwandas Building in Narinpura had been declared as dangerous, therefore it was decided to relocate the families residing in its over 63 apartments as a makeshift arrangement. These people would again shift to their original home after the reconstruction of Bhagwandas Building.
He said that the work had been started under the special directive of Administrator KMC Muhammad Hussain Syed so that it could complete before the start of next monsoon rains in the city. The Metropolitan Commissioner said that the land for construction of alternate residential block for residents of Bhagwandas Building had been finalized with the collaboration of DMC South which also gave some of its land for the block. The shifting of families will be completed in next one and a half month time.
He said that a committee comprising the concerned officers of KMC and the representatives of residents of Bhagwandas Building was overseeing the whole work with the view to ensure availability of all necessary facilities to these people on the new place including the supply of water, electricity, gas and sewerage system.
