Child Protection and Welfare Bureau (CPWB) Rawalpindi has rescued eight children found begging on city roads last week. According to the CPWB district officer, rescue teams of the bureau along with police visited several city areas, including Sadder bazaar, Chore chowk, Daewoo bus stand, Peerwadhai, Faizaabad, Murree Road, Airport and Scheme-Three area. He added the children taken into custody from different city areas were later presented in Child Protection Court for legal custody.
Family tracing unit of the bureau makes efforts to find out parents of such children and on provision of an affidavit that the children would not be made beggars, but handed over to them. He said people should come forward and play their role in this regard and information about such children should be given on child protection helpline 1121. He further said that 10 such children were handed over to their parents during the period. Meanwhile, Child Protection Specialist Punjab Jawadullah has said that Child Protection Bureau Punjab has played a vital role by handing over thousands of children who left their homes or were lost to their parents.
